CPHRC Hosts Franklin Institute STEM Scholar

The CPHRC hosted a Franklin Institute STEM Scholar intern in the summer 2019. The STEM Scholars Program serves a select group of Philadelphia-area students in grades 9-12 who are passionate about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects.

The program’s mission is to increase promising urban students' matriculation into college and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields by providing a STEM immersion portal to enhance STEM subject knowledge and problem-solving skills.

CPHRC hosted Rahia Bakhri, a rising senior at George Washington Carver Engineering and Science High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rania is interested in bioengineering, public health and medicine as possible career paths. Rania worked with the CPHRC research team on a CDC-funded study analyzing the disaster-information needs of families with children who have special health care challenges.
